Normally all of my articles are about working out at home, but today I’m going to start something a little different. It’s time to talk about the other side of the health coin, and that is nutrition. All of the exercise in the world won’t do us any good if we never eat the right foods. Now you might say, “Well, Jake there are people out there everywhere that eat whatever they want and still look good. Some of them don’t even exercise!” All I have to say to that is that if they don’t do something different their day will come.
Bad habits catch up with us and a little nutritional deficiency here and there is going to add up to everywhere. Although it is a good point. Sometimes we see skinny people munching all the time on all of the “bad” foods, and we wonder why even bother trying to do anything about our health. Well don’t be discouraged, because there may be many interesting nutrition facts that you never knew about. There are so many different kinds of foods and so many nutrients that make up these foods.
Vitamins and minerals are of the utmost importance, because these things are usually stripped out of the foods we eat today because of modern environmental factors. Now I’m not about to go on an organic food only tangent (although I’m not against organic either) I’m just saying that we need these vitamins and minerals to be healthy. To make my point a little more clear one interesting nutrition fact about the mineral niacin is that it can alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
And that’s only one benefit of one mineral. Niacin is one of the B vitamins which are becoming well known for assisting in energy metabolism. These vitamins can be found in meats like fish, and tuna, as well as nuts like almonds. I could write an essay on the many benefits of Almonds, but my point is that there are nutrients out there that can fix problems that we have long given up on. These nutrients can help us to exercise better, and who knows maybe if our bodies have enough of the good nutrients and we’ve been exercising regularly we can afford to have that piece of chocolate cake without compromising our fitness goals.
