I am a man, not a woman. Hopefully there wasn’t any doubt, but I just thought I’d clarify that. I’ve seen women, I know some women, and I think women are great. I have talked to some women before about their workout goals as well. While I’m not a woman, I do realize that there can be a certain fear of lifting weights or doing any activity that is similar because the result may be unsightly “manly” muscles. I know that’s not the thought process of all women, but it does seem that many still think that way.
The truth is, while men and women have similar muscular and skeletal systems, there are a few differences. One of the bigger differences is that men and women are very hormonally different. Testosterone is the hormone that accounts for most of muscle growth. Men produce approximately 20 times more testosterone than women on a daily basis. All of that extra testosterone combined with strength training allows for men in general to grow bigger than women. That doesn’t mean that women can’t get strong. In fact, anyone can get strong without getting big muscles if they follow a certain type of program. Because of the difference in hormones, women can follow a similar program to a man and see great results.
If that’s the case though, then why have I created specific articles and workout videos just for women? The answer is that men and women have different areas of their body that they want to improve and some exercises work better than others for a specific improvement.
Here in my at home workouts for women section you can find many effective workouts. I have some women’s workouts that cover everything from strength training to cardio, and others that are more specific.
