What does a thunder god eat? I’m sure that from time to time, we’ve all asked ourselves that question. Okay, maybe not. Nevertheless, it is a question that may be an important one to answer for those of us who wish to build more muscle. In at least the comic book version of Thor, it is said that they have golden apples that give them immortality. In the movie there was a table set up with a variety of foods. It appeared to have a large amount of meat as the main course, and then surrounding it were various fruits, vegetables, and grains.
For Chris Hemsworth, it meant eating a lot of protein, and veggies as well as a few grains. But Hemsworth more than likely, had a dietitian monitoring his body and telling him exactly what to eat. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Personally, I’m glad that he took all the necessary steps to achieve the right look. If he hadn’t the movie would have suffered, and his performance would be overlooked. But for us mere mortals a.k.a non-celebrities we must rely on finding our own way. Granted, if you have the money, you too can hire the right dietitian. If that’s not you, then keep reading (If that is you, you can keep reading as well. I don’t mind).
Recently, I started my new Thor workout and Thor diet plan. This workout and diet plan is not the same one used by Chris Hemsworth, but the goals are similar. My personal challenge to myself is to have gained 10 lbs. from Monday Sept. 9th to Friday November 11th. That is going from 156 lbs. to 166 lbs. in almost 9 weeks. To do this, I needed a plan. I set out to write down my total calories and total protein for each day. After a few first days mishaps, I believe that I’m on the right track. Originally, I had planned on consuming 4000 calories on my weight training days, and 3000 on the other days. And having 200 grams of protein on the weight training days, and 150 on the other days. After experimenting with that for the first couple of days I have realized that my body does better with about 2500 calories and 166 grams of protein on weight training days.
Now, just because that works better does not mean that that is the optimal way to go. The other two times in my life where I noticed major muscle gain, I wasn’t counting calories. In fact, that’s my preferred method. I’m not big into numbers, and I’ve always felt that there should be an easier way. Eating healthy and natural foods combined with a proper cardiovascular and strength training workout routine will get you into great shape. After a while, depending on the state you started out in, you will most likely be able to see your abs. At that point, you may want to get even leaner. Monitoring your calories closely will help you achieve that.
Another thing that I am doing on the Thor diet that you should do to is to measure the waist, and check your weight at least every week. I’m checking mine every day, so that I know, I’m gaining muscle and not fat. Another way to monitor your calories without counting is to eat the same thing everyday. Then if you’re gaining too fast, you can get rid of one or two things. If you’re not gaining fast enough, you can add one or two things.
