Calf Exercises at Home

When it comes to body parts, we all have our problem areas. For some people, the calves are a big problem area. When you’re working out at home you may be lost as to how you should go about working out your calves. Don't worry, I can help you out.

One of my favorite calf exercises are one leg calf raises. I usually do those on the stairs to get a full stretch in the muscle. If those are too much for you then try it with both legs. If one leg is not enough then hold a dumbbell while you do them.

Run and Jump like an Athlete

Another, often overlooked calf exercise that can be done at home is jumping rope. Yeah, you have to have a jump rope, but they are worth the price. Jumping rope will work your calves while also improving your agility. It's also an amazing conditioning exercise.

Of course you can always go running for your calf muscles. I think that a good running program that includes some sprints can be a full and effective calf workout. Especially if you include a good stretching program. However to run you will need to go outside or get a treadmill.

Don't Over Do It

The sets and repetitions all depend on your goals and conditioning, but I will say that you rarely want to use very low repetitions for calves. Now you may not focus on your calves as much as your thighs or shoulders, but be careful not to neglect them.

People that have naturally good looking calves can end up fooling themselves when they go to run or play a sport and don’t have the strength in their calves that they thought they did. Regularly include calf exercises like the ones mentioned in this article and that won’t happen to you.
