Explosive Training

Have you ever wanted to jump higher or throw farther? If you're an athlete then of course you have, and honestly from time to time probably everyone has wanted to jump higher even if it was just to leap to the moon to eat some cheese or throw far enough to hit your brother with a popcorn ball and still be able to get away. Whatever the reason, these types of movements are greatly improved with plyometric or what I like to call explosive training.

Technically jumping and throwing themselves are plyometric movements, but there are different types of jumps, and different types of throws. The key is to learn which explosive training exercises are best for your goals and how often you should do them. The workout shown in this video is a basic, beginner's explosive workout. Explosive training can be very fun because it can be very challenging and also extremely rewarding. Think about it. How would it be if you're playing basketball and all of the sudden you just run up to the hoop, jump, and slam dunk the ball?

For those of us who are 5'8" and shorter that would be at least near the miraculous level. I know that I can't do that right now, but I also don't keep explosive training as a mainstay in my workouts. It all depends on your exact goals, and dunking is something that would require a lot of your focus to be on explosive training. The great thing is that even though I can't dunk, I can jump fairly high for someone of my height, and there is something euphoric about it. Being able to move quickly and powerfully as many athletes do in sports is something that really appeals to our bodies. We were meant to be able to move like animals, and training that way brings yet another uniqueness to our workouts that keeps things interesting, and fun.
